Description
Typically called a Creeping Thistle or Canadian Thistle, it is also called "lettuce from Hell"
The roots are edible but tend to induce flatulence in some people. The taproot is considered the most nutritious part and the leaves are also edible, though the spines make preparation for food tedious. The stalks are also edible and easily despined. Cherokees fletch their blowdarts with the feathery pappus... intersting to say the least. On a rocky shoreline in Michigan, it was an example of tenacity!
